Simple Moments of Appreciation

On Monday September 9, 2013 I had the privilege of taking my daughter to school and picking her up at the end of the school day.  I took extreme pride in making her breakfast and packing her school lunch.  I carefully and lovingly got her dressed and styled her hair to her liking while dealing with her tantrums and pickiness with tolerance.  I was extremely patient in fixing her “seamless” sock so it won’t bother her toes – we tried approximately four times before her sneakers fit to her satisfaction.  I enjoyed it all because as a working mom, I valued these moments – moments I rarely get to experience.  I returned to my desk job with a heavy heart and cherished memories.  My heart aches for more moment as such – tantrums and all.  On my way home from work that day, I wondered if I would have appreciated these simple moments had I the financial means to be a stay-at-home mom or would I be jaded like so many others.  Sometimes we are put in certain positions that bring out the best and worst in us, and for me, if it took being a working mom to treasure and appreciate these simple moments, I wouldn’t trade it for the riches in the world. Simple moments treasured forever…
